Financial Stability Report
In its Financial Stability Report, the Swiss National Bank presents its assessment of the Swiss banking sector's stability. The SNB publishes this report as part of its contribution to the stability of the financial system - a task assigned to it under the National Bank Act. In the Financial Stability Report, the SNB focuses on trends that are observable at the levels of the banking system, the financial markets and the macroeconomic environment. The main purpose of the report for the SNB is to draw attention to stresses or vulnerabilities that could pose a threat to system stability in the short or the longer term. The Bank thus tracks developments in the banking sector from a macroprudential perspective. This task supplements that assigned to the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), which is responsible for supervision of the banks at the level of the individual institutions (microprudential supervision).
The Financial Stability Report is published in English in June each year, and, since 2008, it has also been translated into German and French. The translations are currently published in September. As of 2024, a summary in English, German, French and Italian is published at the same time as the full English report.
