The design of the current banknotes at a glance
For the current series the SNB adopted an entirely new design approach – individuals are no longer depicted. Rather, each denomination depicts a typical Swiss characteristic, represented by means of a key motif. Each characteristic is illustrated with an activity, a location in Switzerland and other design elements. The theme of the current banknote series is ‘The many facets of Switzerland’.
The 200-franc note
The 200-franc note focuses on Switzerland’s scientific expertise – expressed by matter, the note’s key motif.

Hand
The fingers of the hand describe three axis coordinates, representing the spatial dimensions in which matter expands.

Globe and land masses
Over the globe, the earth's land masses during the late Cretaceous period are shown.

Security strip
The security strip features an abstract map of the geological ages of Switzerland, as well as a timeline showing some of the stages in the formation of the universe.
There are many other design elements on the note, all of which illustrate its theme of scientific expertise and its key motif, matter.
