Survey on cash acceptance at selected companies 2024

In May and June 2024 the SNB conducted its first survey on cash acceptance of selected companies in industries selling everyday goods and services. These companies typically have many points of contact with the general public on a daily basis and are therefore especially important for day-to-day payments.

The aim of the survey is to identify changes in cash acceptance at an early stage and to improve the understanding of company needs in connection with cash supply and distribution. This survey complements the extensive payment methods survey of companies that is conducted every two years.

The SNB is tasked with ensuring the supply and distribution of cash in Switzerland. In-depth knowledge of cash acceptance and handling by companies contributes to the SNB fulfilling this task.

Survey commissioned by the Swiss National Bank

Under the National Bank Act, the Swiss National Bank is tasked with ensuring the supply and distribution of cash in Switzerland. Additionally, it is entrusted with facilitating and securing the operation of cashless payment systems. By performing these tasks, the SNB creates the necessary conditions for the public to be able to choose their preferred method of payment for each transaction. In-depth knowledge of how payment methods are used and their acceptance helps the SNB to fulfil these tasks.

The SNB is conducting this survey in collaboration with the research institute Intervista. You can find additional information on the company at www.intervista.ch.
